Hi Folks.

Ice fishing season is winding down when it comes to game fish species. There’s still some time left though, for you ice enthusiasts. Pike have been producing some pretty good action for area anglers. Fishermen are having their best success in 6 to 10 ft weeds using large golden shiners. Some of the better lakes have been Carrol, Madeline, Big St Germain and the Willow flowage. These fish have been providing action pretty much all day long with the best bite coming late mornings.

Panfish action has consisted mainly of bluegills. There have been a few crappies being caught during the warmer weather when water is standing on top of the ice, and perch have been spotty at best. Most anglers when looking for panfish are concentrating on weed beds at about 10 feet – that seems to be where we’re finding the nicer sized gills. Small ice jigs tipped with either a waxie or spike have been working the best. For those of you out there or want to get some last minute action, these next couple weekends should be ok around the area. Ice seems to be in pretty good shape and with the light snow conditions moving around out there has been pretty easier.

For anyone who wants to come and talk fishing, I’ll be at the Madison Fishing Expo this coming weekend. Hope you have time to stop by and chew the fat.

That’s it for now. Stay warm and dry and have good success fishing.
