Ice is covering most of our lakes in the area, but ice conditions are not safe for fishing as of yet. Most of the lakes are on hold due to the snow and slush from the last snow fall. I have been out checking and for the most part I am still not able to get out safely to the areas I want to fish. Hopefully with the cold temps in the forecast we will be in better shape soon. Good clear ice in the 1-3 inch range has been the norm with frozen slush adding another inch or two. But as always these ice thicknesses can change very quickly in a few feet. So extreme caution is advised, and I recommend waiting for a little while. When going out don’t forget your spud bar, rope, life jacket, picks and a buddy.
Be safe out there and good fishing, I will be reporting on ice conditions regularly so stay tuned.
