Well we have good ice in the bays now! 3 to maybe 4 inches but you have to take great care as area's that have some snow cover the ice is not as thick, use a spud bar as you walk out. Best reports are on Walleye's up in the shallows anywhere from 2 to 4 feet of water. Med Suckers or Shiners for bait. Lots of pike are in these area's to so you might want to use a fine wire leader to stop those bite offs. Some bluegill and Perch action along the weeds but most are small. Crappies are deep and nobody has really adventured out to the deeper water yet.

Nice Walleye's on Lake Alice today, a couple of anglers stopped in the shop this afternoon (Fri.) to show us their catch. A nice 23, 20 and a 21 inch Walleye's. They said the action was good for about 40 minutes with lots of undersized walleye. Small to med size shiners worked best for them but the largest walleye was caught on a sucker. They had 5 inches of ice.

Great to hear that we have safe, fishable ice!
Has anyone ever noticed the "USA" Logo on Jiffy Ice Drill TV commercials? They used to comment on the commercials that the product was "engineered" in the USA. Now they no longer even do that. I e-mailed Gillespie and Jiffy and asked where the drills are actually manufactured. Did not receive a reply from either one of them! Looks like the advertisement is hoping people think the Jiffy Ice Augers are actually made in the USA. Can anybody tell me where they are actually made?

I believe the powerheads are made in China. The rest is U.S.A.!!

    Hockey:

With all due respect, sir... We do have some ice that is fishable, but to be that general is not a good statement to use... There are many waters up here where dogs have gone through, some survived via town rescue, some have not... There was snowmobile that went through in Mercer (that operator was able to walk to shore)... Trout, Tom and North Twin still have open water... Tread lightly and carry all of your safety equipment yet, please!!!

Mark is right, you must use extreme caution when heading out do not drive on with snowmobiles or atv's. Stay away from the river channels and area's with snow cover as the ice is thinner. Check with a spud bar (chisel) as you head out.
