If I only had one trip, I'd wait for a couple weeks. I'm only basing this on 1 year prior experience out here, so take my opinion lightly... but last year, the fishing got better into November.

Just got back today from spending the whole week up there. The day bite was non existent except for smallies and northern. Did catch a 31 incher (walleye) the first 45 minutes then nothing. A night we caught a 22 and 28 as far as walleyes go. Spend most of your fishing at night using shallow baits and trolling the north end with everyone else. I'll try to post the pictures.
    Thanks, Cliff.
