    Default Snake crossing CastleRock

    I took a picture of this snake about a 6 weeks ago crossing the lake by the Petenwell Damn.Its probably common but cant seem to find it in Wisconsin Snakes.

    Interesting photo. I could not find it online. Maybe you are right about it being a Fox Snake, but that bright yellow color has me guessing.

    A couple of notes that I found that don't necessarily categorize it as venomous, but enough that I would be careful.

    Bright colors usually means it is venomous. Bright = warning, stay away.
    Just the head above water = non-venomous water snake. Whole body above water = venomous. Venomous snakes usually inflate their lungs to swim.
    Round pupil = non-venomous. Elliptical pupil = venomous. I'll bet you didn't get close enough to look into it's eyes. :-)

    It is a fox snake, non=venomous but bite is nasty. Only venomous native snakes in Wisconsin are the Timber rattlesnake and massasauga (pygmy rattlesnake). Fox snakes mimic rattlesnakes by twitching their tail in leaves and they sound like a rattler.

    Default We were pretty close

    He swam under part of my boat,I thought one of the eagles would get it.Its good to see the eagles are doing so well I seen at least 4.
