    Default Flies

What's with the gazzillion of biting flies along the shorelines? This is the worst I remember in my 23 years of owning property up here. Does anyone know what kind they are and what might help detract them from biting both humans and dogs? The only place to escape them outdoors seems to be out on the water. How long should we expect them to be around? I really need to get out and stain the house, which right now is impossible. Have to spend my time fishing instead!

I think the fly you are referring to is the Stable Fly (Stomoxys calcitrans).

Take some of the fish your catching, and after cleaning put some of the remains in an empty milk jug, add water till almost full. Drill about a 3/8 in hole in the cap and set it in the corner of your yard. watch it fill up in a few days.
