Default Weekly Fishing Report: June 25 - July 2, 2011

Weather was reasonable early and warmed up late. Not a lot of wind this week.

Walleyes were steady, if not spectacular in terms of size. Most boats fishing reefs now. That means slow jigging with minnows/leeches for the most part. Althought spinners/bottom bouncers and trolling cranks over reefs can be effective too. DO NOT ignore deeper "reefs." A 15 foot hump in 30 feet of water can be dynmite. There are plenty of different humps out there on your maps and map cards (GPS.) Give them all a try and work them thoroughly from top to bottom.

Muskies have been a little lethargic to start. Follows have been lazy, low and late to be seen. There are some active agressive fish, but they aren't showing up in great numbers yet. The weekends heat will bring up water temps and some stable weather should get them going crazy. The best is certainly yet to come as the weeds in many places look excellent and the rock bite pending. Twitch baits and spinner baits have been the ticket so far. Bucktails and topwater should start to produce anytime now.

Northerns have still been steady. Bigger fish are common, while eaters can be found if you are patient. Obabikon Lake is almost a sure thing any time out.

We just don't have that many bass fisherman around so I can't comment too much on smallies. Find some rubble and boulder points and they should be present.

    Good luck on the water.
