In David's own words, here is a recap of their week of fishing with a guide on Lake of the Woods:

"We caught a total of 441 fish in five days of fishing with George. We fished mostly Northerns so the Walleye count is low. But we only fished Walleyes two partial mornings. We caught 350 Northerns and 78 Walleyes. The other fish were bass, crappie, perch, and one 28 inch Muskie.

The best day overall was 46 Walleyes in the morning and 103 Northerns in Obabikon Bay in the afternoon. Our best day fishing Whitefish Bay all day was 97 Northerns.

George is a great guy to have as a guide. Every day we easily out fished people who have been coming to the lake for many years. Each night everyone wanted to know how we did that day. We opted to fish for action rather than size because of Devin being young and wanting to get him hooked on fishing. But we still caught 12 Northerns over 31 inches (several at 38 inches). I’m sure if we had chosen to go after trophy Northerns or Muskies, George would have been just as effective."

That's a great week indeed. Now, Georgie was the first to point out that this was a ridiculously good week of fishing. He has been fishing this lake for 30+ years and knows his stuff. Not often can these kinds of results be achieved. If catching fish is an integral part of whether or not you enjoy your trip, you should sderiously considering hiring a guide for a day or two when you are in any of the following situations:

You are new to the area.

You are familiar with the area, but are fishing a much different time of year (Spring vs fall, summer vs spring, etc.)

You have people along that will not enjoy themselves without catching a lot of fish.

You fish the same spots over and over and would like to expand your horizons so you don't get panicky when there are boats on a lot of "your spots."
