Here's a little info for anyone coming up for the Musky opener this weekend. With the cold spring and recent cold nights surface temps on most area lakes should be about 60 on Saturday morning. The majority of the Muskies should be done spawning, but many of if not all the fish will still be recovering so use extra care when unhooking and releasing the fish. My plan is to start in the shallows around new weed growth and the warmest water I can find. Slow moving minnow baits and glide baits should work well early, and maybe a small bucktail or spinnerbait in the afternoon or evening if surface temps go up during the day, slow speed will probably be more important than lure type. If action is slow in the shallows trying open water can really pay off early in the year. Good Luck!!
