May 2, 2011 Fishing Report

Well folks, here we go again. The 2011 open water season is finally arriving. If you’re like me, it’s been a long winter and it sure will feel good to get back in the boat again. With the upcoming season make sure that your tackle is all in order and ready to go. Once you have this done, it’s just a matter of hoping that the weather cooperates with us.

It’s been a crummy spring up here, lots of cold weather and snow hanging around. Water temps are no better than 44 degrees on most area lakes that I’m hearing and fish are in spawning mode. These patterns should continue come opening day. Temperatures are going to warm up starting tomorrow and Saturday’s forecast is showing range and upper 50’s for temps.

If you’re looking for walleyes, concentrate your efforts around gravelly type shorelines and points. If you don’t find fish in these type of spots, then look to any new green weed you find or downed timber. 1/16 oz jigs tipped with large fatheads should be the main bait when heading out and concentrate your fishing efforts out to 12 feet of water on most area lakes.

Well that’s it for now. See you on the water Saturday.

Good luck fishing.
