    Default Fishing Update 5/2

I was able to get out last Friday. The weather was beautiful and the lake was basically calm. it felt great to get out in the boat for the first time this year. I was targeting crappies. I started out slowly drifting slip bobbers out over cribs that I had fished over the winter. I picked up a couple but it was slow. i moved to a slot of 10 - 12' of water that separated 2 rock bars. Almost immediately I was into fish. There was times when it was impossible to keep 3 rods going. In fact for awhile I would bait 1 rod up and cast it out, I would bait the second and cast it out to notice that the first slip bobber was down. This went on for about a 1/2 hour of constant action. I must admit it was lots of fun.The fish were not real big but many 9 1/2 - 10 1/2 inches. With a couple almost 12". In a matter of a few hours I was out of bait. I did keep a few for the fry pan. It was good to get some fresh fish in the house.

I was on a shallow dark water flowage and the water temps were 44-45 degrees. the crappies were still in the main basin and slip bobbers with minnows was working well. It will take some warmer weather to get them to move shallow. The female fish were not even showing that much. I think that the spawn for crappies is a ways off yet. You should be able to enjoy some good fishing this weekend.

    Good Fishing,
