    Default Guide Report - March 11, 2011

Friday afternoon I had the pleasure of guiding Nate from Marshfield on a local lake for some Crappie action. We had our tip downs in and our jigs down at 12:00 noon and the Crappies were instantly on our program. Nate did a great job on the jigging as he ice over half of the Crappies on a Chartreuse tear-drop jig with spikes on it. The other Crappies fell victim to a Crappie Minnow/Tip Down combo. The area we were fishing was a bottle neck between two large land masses. A river channel runs directly between the two land masses which creates a location Crappies can't resist this time of the year. Attached is a picture of Nate's catch on Friday afternoon.

The panfish bite just keeps on getting better. Some EXTRA LARGE Crappies have been being caught with some pushing the 15" mark. As John said, the panfish bite has been waaay better towards the morning hours, but that will change as we get closer to the end of the season. The Panfish will soon begin to bite all day long. Look for Crappies suspended as high as 15 feet off the bottom or in some cases, higher. Keep trying different depths until you find that "magic number". By "magic number" I mean the depth that the most aggressive Crappies are coming in at. Sometimes one or two feet will make a difference.

With the beautiful weather in store for the next couple weeks, get out and catch some panfish. If any of you are interested on being put on big fish, numbers of fish, or a mixed bag, give us a call at 715.339.3625. We have 4 fully-equipped guides that are ready to serve your fishing needs.
