Fishing Report - March 7, 2011
What a weekend! Saturday morning, a group of us ventured out to a new area to try our luck at some Crappie fishing. After looking at the map we decided that this location was going to be "Plan A". Well "Plan A" paid off. Before we were done drilling holes we had a half dozen slabs on the ice. The action failed to slow down as we limited out in 7 hours. Along with the 5-man limit we threw back another 60 or so.
Crappie minnows on Tip-Downs were dynomite, but they didn't come close to the jigging program. The area we were in was so large that we drilled 40 holes and just keep hole hopping to find the next batch of suspend Crappies. Once we'd catch one or two we'd move to next hole and that program stayed consistent all day.
The area we were fishing in was the edge of a channel in about 20 feet of water. Some fish held close to the bottom 2 feet while most of the Crappies were anywhere between 3 and 10 feet off the bottom. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
Sunday afternoon my girlfriend Nicole and I tried our luck at some Walleye fishing. On the last day of the season we set up on a 5-foot flat with stumps and wood. Nicole took all the flags and at the end of the two-hour trip she iced us a meal of nice Walleyes.
Sales for the new license year start March 9 so don't forget to stop in by Ross's and pick up your license for the 2011-2012 season as your current license expires on March 31.
