Hi folks. Here’s the first fishing report of 2011. Ice fishing’s in full swing up here in the northwoods and anglers are enjoying some pretty good fishing when it comes to walleyes. These fish have been putting on a fairly strong evening bite and are being located in weeds in water depths ranging from 8 to 12 feet. Tip ups with walleye suckers have been working the best on these fish and set your bait to hang just above the weeds or just above the bottom in the holes of the weeds. Timber, if available, is your next best bet and in the same water depth. NORTHERN PIKE have also been putting on a pretty good bite during the daytime hours. These fish are taking big golden shiners and look for them also in the heaviest of the weed cover you can find.

PANFISH action has been ok. There have been quite a few reports of decent perch being caught. Jigs and waxies or spikes fished in the weedbeds have been the spots to be looking and the baits to be using. I’ve heard that Carroll Lake has been producing quite a few.

Good luck fishing. Jeff
