Thread: Help with light lures

    Default Help with light lures

I wonder if there's some help out there for an amateur angler?

I have trouble casting light lures (such as smaller size Rapalas) with my spinning tackle. Can't seem to get any real distance on my casts.

Can someone give me some basics on the tackle, line and techniques that will give me some better success? Using a Shimano Sedona spinning reel, a medium-lite Ugly Stik, and 6 lb test.

    Thanks much,
    John

    John,

For casting distance, I always look for a longer rod and reels with larger spool arbors.

Dont know what size Ugly Stick you have or size Sedona.. But, if I am looking to cast lighter rapalas, I would look for a seven and a half foot ML or M power with a fast action. Team this with a reel in a 3500 series.

This should give you more distance.

Oh, and as you know, always use the wind to your advantage..
