    Found this on the net the other day, looks like something that could be a great find for cable steer trolling motor guys. Simple and cheap, like me

    So, am I missing something here, or is this just for going in a straight line? Or, are you supposed to set it just loose enough to be able to slip and turn?

    I believe you set it lose enough that it will hold a course when you take your foot off the pedal (in constant on) but it is still totally steerable. They tend to wander off if you take your foot off the pedal otherwise.
