    Default Mille Lacs Report 8/16

Fishing has toughened a bit in the last week or two with all the unsettled weather. For a couple weeks it's either been a thunderstorm (or several) per day or it's been high wind. The recent cold front has dropped water temperatures a few degrees, which is a good thing. The surface temps had reached a maximum of 76-78, depending on location and time of day. The fish seemed to have been in a funk during the stretch of hot, humid, stormy weather, with large numbers of fish following and porpoising but not striking. As it often does under these conditions, the cold front shook things up and brought the muskies out of their torpor. The current water temps are in the 72-74 range and dropping. There have been some very heavy algae blooms, resulting from the prolonged hot weater, and the clarity is low in most places and probably will be for a while longer.
