Hello Everyone, this is Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop right here in Tomahawk. With rainshowers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the next few days, we can expect the fishing to remain steady as it has been this past week.
Topwater lures seem to be reigning supreme out here on the area river systems. Largemouth Bass, Northern, and Smallmouth Bass have all been hitting steadily on a variety of topwater lures- like Mepps Top Props, Jitterbugs,Storm Chug Bugs,Topwater Frogs and Heddon Spooks. Slow, erratic retrieves along weed beds 2-6 ft of water have been working great for all three species. If you prefer to use live bait, try Using a Redtail Chub or Extra Large Fathead beneath a Slip Bobber along the weed edges. Set your depth about 2-3 ft up from the bottom so your minnow is suspended.
The walleye bite has been best in the Morning hours, 5-8am. Fish along emerging Cabbage Weeds and edges of Rock Bars, 3-8ft of water. Our best luck has been on Crank Baits with rattles, suck as Berkley Flicker Shads, Rattling Rapalas, New Rapala Clackin Raps and Matzuo Tournament Cranks. Bomber and Bandit brands of crankbaits have been working great as well. These cranks may also snagg you a bonus Northern or Bass.
This summer sure seems to be the summer for Jumbo Perch. These fatties are still being caught right in the weedbeds, 2-5 ft of water. All you need is a piece of Nightcrawler beneath a slip bobber to snag yourself a great meal.
The bluegill bite remains steady, but alot of the bigger sized gills seem to have moved to a bit deeper water, 5-8 ft of water. Your best luck will be on Gulp Alive waxies or a leafworm beneath a spring bobber. Fish drop-offs near shallow weed beds.
Musky Fishing has been great so far this summer as well. Shallow running plastic baits like the New Shallow Super D's and Magnum Bulldawgs have been hot. Fish near emerging cabbage weeds and steep dropoffs. Topwater baits have been working great this time of year as well, try using Hairy Ploppers, Bucher Topraiders, and the new Weagle by Suick. If you like to fish right in the weeds, the best lure on the Market this year for Muskies is the Mo Mo Tandem Spinnerbait. It is weedless and glides flawlessly sub-surface over the cabbage weeds.
