Assuming you are dedicated (or crazy) enough to fish in HEAVY downpours, how has your success been in those situations for any species??

My fishing partner and I had a great day on Chatauqua Lake last year in a downpour . We ended up with four over 40 inches in less than an hour . As soon as the action died we headed back to the launch, when we had the boat on the trailor the rain stopped and sun came out . As long as it's warm I'll fish in the rain but lighting is a differnt story i am off the water in a hurry !

My second largest Chaut. casting fish was during a stupid thunderstorm that was heading our way cracking and booming the whole way but turned right before us. It was raining like mad. We had no business being on the water but it was good for a soaking wet picture of me and a 45" incher.
Now rain in the frozen form........BRING ON THE BIG "FISH FLAKES" MOTHER NATURE!!!!
They are better to fish in too, they brush right off and not soak in.
I'm sure you'll agree Red.
Love the big flakes for sure. No question bout that!

I caught this big Rainbow in a downpour last week! She was 22.5 inches! She inhaled a lure to were I had no chance of a healthy release!

I always like fishing a front coming in and after it starts raining for a while although only a 50/50 or so success rate catching anything. I have watched on tv Doug Stange of InFisherman hammering muskies while watching the lightning and hearing the thunder in the background. I bought a set of Frogg Toggs and a cap to match last year. They are the RealTree Advantage Max4 pants, jacket and hat and they are worth every penny i spent on them !!!! Highly recommended and will keep you dry in the rain and the wind off you also. I even wore them in the winter keeping that cold wind off of me and worked great. They look great too.
That is a VERY NICE BOW !!!!!
Nailed one today just as the downpour let up after lunch. First allegheny river musky for me! I would upload a pic, but I guess I finally found something droid won't do!
Heres Mike's Allegheny Muskie! (LOWBIDDER) Good job!
Brian
Congradulation on your first allegheny musky!! May there be many more. Gary
Thanks Brian... it was much bigger before you posted the pic... Ha!
Congrats Mike! May there be many, many more.

Man, Mother Nature has just been having a blast with weekend fishing this Spring. I have no problem with rain, but when the lightning flies, I am nowhere near the water. I'm supposed to be on a river trip this weekend, hope she spares me as I had to cancel last weeks for same reason. Tough to catch 'em when I'm sittin at home readin about 'em. LOL
I agree 100%. Kinda like last Fall/Winter with the nice, cloudy days and light snow during the week and then clear skies and falling temps for the weekends.
The wind forecast appears to be under 50mph so that is a bonus.

Oh but give it another 24hrs and I'm sure she can get those winds up there too. LOL I think I had more Musky fishing in by mid-April last year than I do at this point this year. I just hope she changes her schedule a bit, keeps the waters cool and gives us a great Summer to fish. Otherwise, I'm gonna stock the pond across from my house with Musky and fish the damn thing EVERY day!! LOL
Long range forecast is calling for T-Storms next Saturday already.

LMAO I saw that too. And isn't it a pain that for some reason the weather guys seem to be right on for those weekend thunderstorms but can't tell me whats happening outside right now!! LOL Doesn't help that I just read an article in Field and Stream (I think) about some kid and his Dad that got struck while fishing. Luckily both were ok, but the picture of what happened to the fishing rod was pretty crazy.

Video of guys that were struck by lightning. Not sure if the same as the article. Just food for thought to never risk it.
I used to plan my fun fishing outings around T-storms and especially tornado warnings until we got pelted by large hail several years back and lightning touched down very close to us. With a wife and kids now, I have been a little smarter these days.
