Default "Fishin' with Dick" - 2010 Reports from Dick Moore

Long time LOTW angler and now summer resident, Dick Moore, will once again be offering tips, trends and reports on how he is finding things during the 2010 fishing season.

Check back with this thread for more reports throughout the year.

    Dick's 2010 Pre-Season Report:

Another season is at hand and this will be a little different than last year. Early ice out and low water. Walleyes are done spawning and will be scattered. Look for deeper rocky shorelines and bays with weeds. South and west facing areas are always better this time of year. Jigs and minnows are the old standby, however we tend to drag bottom bouncers and spinners with minnows. Hammered brass and copper usually out produce other colors. Don't hesitate to try dragging crankbaits along the shoreline. Try casting jigs along sandy bays in the evening This can be hot. A little early for crawlers, but leeches might produce.

Last year we had a ball on crappies, but I think it will be a little harder to find them this year. Northerns should be around weedy areas and could produce some great fishing.

Be safe, wear your flotation device and good luck.

    Default early summer report

    Dick's Early Summer Synopsis:

According to many of my friends, the REAL fishing season opens on June 19: "Muskie Season". It should be a good opener. Water levels are going up and weed growth is starting. I would fish around the spawning areas, shallow weedy bays and the rocky points adjacent to them. The usual early season lures will produce the most action. Medium size bucktails, spinnerbaits and surface baits. Twitching crankbaits is also a good method.

Walleyes should be getting into their Summer pattern. Reefs fishing should be starting as will fishing the weedy bays. The usual methods - vertical jigging, trolling spinners, etc. Move around, don't get stuck in one pattern. We move around a lot and can almost always find fish somewhere.

Smallmouth bass should be real active. After catching your walleyes, try for bass. It is a lot of fun.

Be careful on the water and be safe.

One last note: Take a look at the supply of fishing tackle that Justin has in the store. Nice to have a place to pick up what you need. He tries to keep up with what is producing.
