    Default Water levels?

What is the water level on Canyon?, Normal? High? Low?
Does the levels change much during dry or wet springs?
A follow up question would be, If the water levels do change much, how does that affect the fishing?

I've been wondering the same thing … saw where a place on LOTW in Kenora was 4+ feet below normal. Wow!!

Just curious … If lower than normal, has the MNR lowered the dam gates on Forest Lake to help balance water levels? Fishing at/near the dam is usually good when there's a strong flow from the dam.

The water levels this year are low all over the place, this is due to an early spring and lack of rain. When this happens there is a lower quantity of run off from melting snow and rain that goes into the lakes. Canyon lake is roughly two and a half feet low, they have not been able to lower the damn at forest lake due to low water levels on forest lake and the connecting bodies of water. Wen the water levels change like this it can be a factor on how the fishing is on larger lakes, as the the water rises it gives the fish more area making them more spread out, wen the water lowers it tends to make them school up as they have less area to go. However on smaller lakes like Canyon it does not normally make a great difference as the fishing tends to be consistent.

    Default Water Level

Isn't there a restiction on messing with the dam once the spawn begins? It's my understanding that years ago if the water was high they would let more water into Canyon and it effected the success rate of the walleye spawn and visversa on low water conditions. they would try and hold more water back for the chain of lakes thus dropping the level in Canyon and then the eggs would be effected also.
