    Thumbs up 4-23 perch report

Well, the "catching" was EXTREMELY good tonight! Headed back up near the Days River again. The fish had moved from a few days ago. Still in about 24 FOW, but east of the sand point. Didn't matter what you dropped down there tonight, they bit it! We caught most of them on wigglers, but minnows worked well, too. I'd say on average, the bigger fish I caught tonight were on minnows. They guy I had with me did well using perch eyes. Between the two of us, we landed well over 170 fish, keeping 60! Jack said he hadn't seen perch fishing like that since he was a kid! There were 10 or 12 other boats out there tonight, and it looked like they were all catching fish.

Get out and enjoy it if you can!

    Chris,
What's the closest launch to the Day's river area? Also wondering if a 14'er is big enough to fish in that area? Any information would be appreciated!!!

    Thanks for your time,

Most people are using the Kipling launch. The Rapid River launch is closer, but unless you are extremely familiar with the mouth of the river (lots of shallow rocks,) I wouldn't recommend going out of there. I would guess it's about a two mile run from the launch to the Day's River. A 14 foot boat should be plenty big enough to make the run, just keep an eye on the weather. If you're not 100% sure where to go, just look for all the boats!

I took Diane out there after work last night. The fish had moved again. With the East wind they were pretty well stacked up along the steep breakline on the west side of the bay. The reports I had from the morning were that the bite was still going good. By the time we got out there, they were slowing down. We landed 38 and kept 10. Biggest one was a 12 1/2 incher. They were much more keyed in on wigglers again, but the biggest fish took the minnows. We even caught a few on mousees, (still have some left from this winter.)

Guess I should try using bigger minnows! Found this in the stomach of that 12 incher when I cleaned it.
