Default Results of the resolutions introduced at the Sawyer Co. meeting

    Hi everyone,

There were 6 resolutions introduced on the floor after the regular Sawyer Co. meeting was held on April 12th. These will be evaluated by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress. If deemed valid, they will go on as advisery questions at the 2011 spring hearings statewide.

Sawyer (58) 580110 Walleye Restoration for Chippewa Flowage 85 26 Passed
Sawyer (58) 580210 Continuous Open Season, 25 Daily Bag Limit of Panfish on Chippewa Flowage 79 35 Passed
Sawyer (58) 580310 Motor Trolling in Sawyer County 43 68 Failed
    Sawyer (58) 580410 Divide State into North/South Deer Zones 77 16 Passed
Sawyer (58) 580510 Free Ice Fishing Weekend 69 15 Passed
Sawyer (58) 580610 Walleye Slot Size on All Wisconsin Waters 62 22 Passed

As you can see, the trolling issue was defeated on the local level. Lets hope the DNR is listening to the call to restore the Walleye fishery in the Chippewa Flowage.

What is the walleye slot size on all Wisconsin waters about?

    Default Slot

    Hi everyone

DWW They want to stop the 18" limit on the Chippewa Flowage from going into affect. So they came up with an alternative to think about. Now the Conservation Congress will review all the resolutions that were passed, and consider thier merit. They can accept it as is, make revisions to it, or reject it.

Well I hope they don't change the limit on the Chip to 1 walleye over 18". To me that is just encouraging the harvest of the big spawners that tend to taste "fishy". I've been fishing on the flowage since 1984 and have caught several hundred walleyes, but I can only think of a few that were over 18". Regaurdless of the the rule changes that are in the future I will still visit the flowage, but if the limit is reduced to 1 walleye over 18" I just won't visit as often.

well to be honest, 2 walleye per day is plenty for myself. If I'm able to bring 4 14"-17" walleyes home I'll consider that a good outing. I actually enjoy catching pike and bass, just prefer not to keep those. Maybe I'll start to keep those 8"+ bluegills and help keep their #'s down on the flowage.

    Default Plenty of Blugills

    Hi DWW,

There are plenty of good size Blugills in the Chippewa Flowage. Most people are happy to catch 5" Blugills. We are lucky to have the 7" and 8" Blugills by the thousands, and they are excellent table fare.

Being able to keep just 2 Walleyes just means more catch and release of Walleyes, and for the table I and my clients will catch lots of those 7" and 8" Blugills. I'll be filleting a lot of those Blugills this year. A plus is that after the Blugills spawn, they move out to deep water and 8" Blugill are fun to catch when you have to haul them up from 20 feet. I have lighter action spinning rods just for that ocassion. Anyone interested, give me a call.
