Default Webster / Backwater Sunday, 3/21

Got out for the first time yesterday and worked the backwater. Saw 1 fish roll on the surface and pitched Giant Jackpots, Suicks and Magic Makers and got no response. Water temp was 49 degrees at surface.

Not far from where the fish rolled, we spontted two fish in the 38-40" class swimming together, side by side and touching... looked like spawning behavior. The DNR better get their traps out soon! I don't think they are planning to set them out until week after next, though.

The fish on Webster have a very wide spawning range, so the nets can definately wait until the fish are even further along in their spawn and the females are ripe and spitting eggs. The fish right now are mostly staging for spawn and have not yet truely begun to spawn. The fish being caught now are not beat up due to biting, rubbing, etc...they are all pretty clean fish so the act of spawning has not yet begun, which means the females are not ready yet...it will be a few more weeks before spawing is in full effect...as long as this weather holds.

    Good luck out there!
