Hi folks. Well fishing up here in the northwoods has been spotty. Success depends on which lake you happen to be on at any given time. We haven’t seen any consistency – just sporadic bites that vary from lake to lake. The Manitowish Chain has been one of the more consistent walleye waters in the area with fish being found hanging around timber in 7 to 8 ft. of water. The best bite of the day has definitely been the evening – generally around the last hour of daylight. There has been some sporadic bluegill and perch activity. When it comes to bluegill fishing, fish are being found in green weeds and producing the best with wax worms. Perch are also being found in these areas, although when looking for these tasty little treats, concentrate you efforts in a little deeper water, like 10 to 12 feet. Spikes and small minnows will work on these fish. Northern activity continues to provide anglers with some of the better fishing opportunities during the daytime hours. Again, weeds are the key to finding these fish. Large golden shiners set about 2 feet off the bottom, or just above the weeds has been working very well. The Flambeau Chain has been one of the better action waters for pike.

Good luck fishing. Jeff Winters
