With the cold weather settling in over the area ice is slowly improving and starting to see more ATV traffic and snowmobiles out on the ice. Caution is still advised as some of the areas I am fishing only have 3-4 inches of ice, and a few areas are even less! Walleye have been very active at sundown with multiple flags and fish each night. Still fishing 15 feet or less outside the weeds. Tipups with a small Shiner or Sucker have been doing the best. Setting the minnows 6 inches to 2 feet off the bottom.
Northern Pike have also been active and cruising the weeds in search of a meal. I have been sitting in 3-8 feet of water hanging the minnows just over the weeds. All day bite is common and when you are in the right spot the action can be awesome.
Panfish have been biting well with most fishermen targeting the weeds or just outside of the weeds. Small minnows, Waxies, and Spikes all working well. The bite has been spotty but the mobile angler will be rewarded.
Good luck to all and be safe.
