Looking at doing some ice fishing in Ely on Monday the 7th. Is there any ice up there yet or do I need to wear my belly boat? Thanks for the info.

Lakes just skimmed over. I'm going on walk-about Sunday with a ice spud, hand auger, box of jigs, and jig rod, to check on some lakes and maybe.... maybe get out on the ice on a small crappie lake that has been iced over since Monday. I would use extreme caution out on early ice, carry a set if hand ice picks around your neck and fish with a partner or two just in case. I'll report back on Monday with some ice conditions and a possible fishing report. If I was traveling, I'd wait a week and let the ice set up better. Make a phone call to the bait shop in Ely and ask about the lake you want to fish may save you a long ride home.
