    Default Musky Update 8/11/09

Well fishing in my opinion has been hit and miss. The fish seem to be a little slow on showing themselves but when you find one it seems that if you are persistant and work them they will commit. For me it has been a combo of topwater and bucktails working the weeds. The weed beds that are close to deeper water have been by far better than the shallower gradual sloping flats. We boated a few fish this past week and a couple nice ones. I caught a 42 1/2 by myself this week and was unable to get a photo. It was hot and I wanted to get the fish back as quickly as possible. This fish followed a topraider, and then I threw back a weagle and she seemed to get a bit more aggressive with it. I left, fished another spot and returned throwing a bucktail, then a jerk bait with no response. I switched back to the weagle made 3 casts and she came out and just exploded on it. Nothing better than topwater action!!. On Saturday I had George and his son George (easy to rember names in the boat that day!!) and we had to wor kfor them but George Jr. connected on a nice 43" Muskie. They forgot their polorized glasses that day and he said that he thought he saw something behind his bucktail so he made an extra wide figure 8. On the second pass the orange blades disappeared so he hit it. The results were a nice healthy 43" that was relesed in great condition. I can not emphasize the importance of good sun glasses. We moved a couple others in the 40" to low 40" in class and caught a short on on topwater. As long as it was overcast they were moving on topwater all morning long. The water temps as of yesterday were at 70 degrees. that is still cold for this time of year. To be successful right now you have to try different things and especially different areas. This past week we found them in the deep weeds. This week it is warming up so I will definitly be looking deep for active fish with bull dawgs and deep cranks if the shallow bite is not there.

    Good Fishing
