Our week started with some wild weather last weekend and plenty of rain. The winds had blown out most of our warmer surface water, but by end of week we back into the low to mid 60's in our bay on Kakagi (Crow) Lake. No guests fishing Lake of the Woods this past week.

Dr Ralph Hartsough a.k.a - Doc, is one of our very special 85 year old guests with 40+ years experience of coming to stay at our place. Doc has taken over the lead with biggest Lake Trout of the season with a 12 pound Lake Trout. Most years we see our first 12 pound Lake Trout by mid May, but this year seems to be different from most.

Lake Trout have been biting well, but fish are scattered. Boats coming back reporting 10-15 fish in either a morning or evening venture out onto the lake has been common. We have the mix of trolling and jigging groups in this week and both have been able to put up good numbers and 8-10 pound Lake Trout.

Bass fishermen have been a little puzzled this past week after the warm water was blown around - some fish are still on the beds, some on the rocks and most of them seem to be sitting deep. A 21" Smallie was the best of the week. With Bass a little mixed up on the weather, fish counts are down slightly.

A few Muskies managed to get caught by bass fishermen. Bigger Muskies for the week were some 41" Muskies - these Muskies can be very fun on a Bass a rod!

Northern Pike action was fairly slow on Kakagi. The far bays with streams are producing some Northerns, but nothing exciting. Cedartree provided some Walleye fishermen with a few Northern Pike - including another 33".

Walleye action on Cedartree ranged from good to okay. The better days had problems finding Walleye small enough to keep from Cedartree. Even if it was a lot more work - guests still seemed pretty happy when every fourth fish was small enough to keep!

The past week has been very special with four different groups of 40+ years of fishing at our lodge. It is really a unique opportunity for us to hear tales from the past 40+ years. This week we have a member of the Crawford family staying with us, so even more opportunities to learn about the past in the days ahead.

Regards,
