Wife was along, hence the 5 hours...
The short open water season, I was making fun of the 30 degree water temps.
I live in Hayward, just usually fish lakes other than the Flowage.
The open water season was short this year.;). I figured the report would be like this, that Ty would say they had a great Saturday. I tried the Flowage for the first time this year for about 5-6...
So it didn't go out on the 21st huh? ;)
I'm guessing with the rain the Flowage will still be out by opener. The bigger natural lakes are still in question though. The ice on them does not look all...
Thanks for your reply Ty. Interesting they'd make decisions like that on a premium priced reel. One would think (or hope, rather) that there was a reason for it besides cost...
If I hired a guide the most important thing I'd like to learn is how they approach the day and their thought process in locating fish. If you can consistently locate fish, you'll catch them....
I'm not sure about the Flowage, but we're a ways from ice out up here. I still have well over a foot of snow in most of my yard. It looks like the lakes are just getting down to the last of the snow...
Ty,
It's interesting that you say stay away from the Calcutta D series. I'm curious why you say that. I know they have a disengaging levelwind (doesn't move back and forth on the cast) and a narrow...
At first I didn't really like Twitchblade but it's growing on me. I also like Vexer a lot. Don't know why but I do. My vote is for Twitchblade or Vexer, and for some reason I think Vexer is pretty...

Ok maybe:
Musky Spanker
Spasticator
Musky Trembler (tremblor?)
Cut-N-Crank
Cranky Sucker
Tasty Sucker
How about "The versatile bait that can twitch, crank, or troll, and catches big fat fish like you wouldn't believe."
I bet that isn't taken.
I'm sure I could be much more creative if I had a few prototypes in my box.
Here's a few bad suggestions:
DoubleT C
Mr. Lippy
The Outlaw
The Judge
The Erratic-ator
Divin' Ty

More cold weather and snow coming the next couple days. Can I change my ice out guess to July 4th?
I fished maybe 4-5 hours last Satudray. Kept 8 decent crappies - most around 10 inches. Caught a few smaller fish but overall it was slow for me.
I haven't been out a lot but the fish seem to be...

There is a tower visible from the Deerfoot area. I'm guessing it's a cell tower. I have Verizon and am getting nearly full reception in that part of the Flowage.
I tried the Chip for a few hours on Sunday afternoon. I tried one spot only - a deep hole/basin type area. I found a few fish in about 30-34 feet of water but they were very scattered. Drilled a lot...
Mark,
regarding the jigging motion, I'm almost always pounding the jig. Maybe with more intensity if I'm not marking any fish, but I never stop the movement. I've been pretty surprised at how...
Mark,
I haven't felt the need to tip my jig/plastic with live bait. I should say I almost never ice fish the Flowage, but anywhere I fish, if I have panfish below me it's a rare day that I can't...
That's a pig of a crappie Mark! Nice work getting on them. I started using Little Atom plastics years ago and haven't bought live bait for panfish since. I use a micro nuggie 90% of the time, with...
Thanks for the info Ty. I might have to give it a shot one of these weekends. I've been using Little Atom plastics for several years and haven't used live bait since I started using the plastics.

Ty, sounds like the ice is pretty solid on the Chip. I'm thinking about heading out there with an ATV sometime soon. Are there any areas of soft ice to stay away from or should I be able to travel...
That is some cool stuff! I think your son has "it." First two muskies in 17 minutes and both on the 8. Unreal!
