I am going for May 12, 11:30am
193 days until I throw that first cast of the year on Eagle Lake...
I'm goin' outta my mind, man!
4,635 hours until my next shot at a 40# Eagle Lake Muskie
AAAAAAAAARRGHHH!
Hey everyone.
Just a heads up about your GST refund checks - I've had trouble getting a bank down here to honor the check without a hassle. There is a $10 service charge for a foreign check...
Man, I'm sorry to hear this. Steve and Danny, Thoughts and prayers don't seem like enough, but it's all I've got...

I made my first trip to AML back in 2007, after having to cancel my trip in 2006. In my mind it was going to be a "once in a lifetime" trip, something you do once and probably never again...
I...
As always, the hospitality was second to none! Great to see Scott, Mike, Cal and the guys again, too.
I was pretty worried bringing my girlfriend up this year for the first time. I made sure...
My bank cashed it with no questions. Then they debited my account $6.93 to make up for the excahnge rate, and another $10 to process the check. Normally, I'd just be kinda miffed, but I've been...
Muskies typically don't feed by scent, that is true. Would it make the difference once in a great while? It might, but I've seen muskies swim right up and stare at a sucker, something that IS...
I can't add much here with my whopping 12 days of experience on Eagle.
But I do have a few observations based on fishing with and talking to Herbie, Cal, Mike, Scott, Darcy, and Travis.
...
I've read and heard that the ideal water temperature for muskies is in the 68 - 72 degree range. (that's 20 - 22 for you guys in Canada, eh) So maybe these movements in cold springs are them trying...
Steve, do you think that's a response to the lack of cover, and the big girls are just looking for a safe place to recover from the spawn? Or is it just that their main food sources are in those...
Let's talk about walleyes!
Danny put me on a 29.5" and 30" walleye last year, about 10 minutes apart, on a presentation I hadn't seen before...
We were basically casting anywhere we'd see...
That's where I'm at too, Dan. I'm pretty familiar with Early August up there, but that's about it. If I have this right, I think generally the fish start out shallow close to the spawning areas in...
Yeah, that was a big question, wasn't it?
Let's break it down a bit. Specifically talking about Eagle Lake, let's start with the musky opener, and talk about that, and what you see happening,...
I'm going to put my money on 54-1/2" x 27-1/2" girth. Probably caught late in the season, legitimate 50 pound class fish.
Oh yeah, and I'm getting a 52"!
Hey, Steve...
Let's talk a little bit about seasonal patterns. Would you be willing to describe how you target muskies at different times of the year, and how your approach changes throughout the...
Dan's point is worth repeating. If you put in enough hours? Eventually it WILL happen. Best you can do is be prepared, and treat every cast like it could be the one. (And on Eagle, it really...
Not that I'm counting or anything, but 106 days from now I could be putting a 50 in the net... But I can wait, really. I can. I'm not even THINKING about it. :o
Thanks for the words of encouragement, Dan. I don't doubt it one bit that my first 50" will be on Eagle. Broke my personal best two years in a row fishing out of AML. 47" in 2007, 49.5" last...
For any of you who haven't fished with Scott, it really is a pleasure. Fun times, and a LOT of cool history to share. Gotta watch that guy, though. If you're not quick, he'll catch the fish...
I guess it was about 4 years ago when I went to the All Canada show and spent the whole day collecting pamphlets, talking to owners, guides, and trying to figure out where I was going to go for that...
"The McNair fish"
You know its a good one when they attach your name to it! Had an opportunity to talk with Dale at the Chicago show, really cool guy, down to Earth. The replica is amazing. ...
1. 50. FIFTY. FIVE-OH.
I am due, and I know just where to go to make it happen. (Which on Eagle is pretty much anywhere...)
2. Fish more, work less, and enjoy every minute of it.
