Castle Rock water quality!

I am surprised that you don't seem to be concerned about the quailty of the water in Castle Rock or Pentenwell

All of us need to be screamming bloody murder at our local, state and federal officials

Below is a copy of the report I received from the DNR it is down right scary

Please give me a call so we can discuss the results further. It was pretty obvious there was a problem with blue-green algae. Mycrosystin was at 440,795 cells/ml. The World Health Organization for "High Health" risk is 100,000 cells/ml. We used your photographs and this data for a presentation to the Natural Resources Board - thank you! They recently approved the Phosphorus Rule so I think this showed them they did the right thing. There is still a lot to be done, but the important thing is, it has started.

DNR does not have jurisdiction to post these areas. The Department of Health (usually the county office) can do that. DOH is aware of the sample taken at your property as well as the other samples taken on Petenwell and Castle Rock. You might be interested to know that the highest blue green count reported came from Petenwell at over 3 million cells/ml!!! Its important that the public notifies the DOH when conditions like Klein Creek are believed to be linked to health problems with people and pets. That triggers a series of events that require sampling and confirmation which is necessary to document these conditions. Thanks for reporting it!

Our first season of monitoring for the Wisconsin River TMDL project is winding down. This is the first step to take to get us closer to reducing these blooms. I urge you to contact PACRS and become active in the organization. They are a great group and are totally on top of things out there.

I like everyone else am concerned about the situation. This algae has been around for over well over 100 years and is not just a problem on Castle Rock, Petenwell or the State of Wisconsin. Go to the link below from the DNR web site to learn more. Go to Google and type in blue/green algae, will will find enough reading to keep you busy for hours. This is not a problem that you can take care of with an herbicide. You cannot go out and skim it off. This is in every lake and stream in the state and most of the U.S from California to Vermont, and other countries around the world. It just grows to a greater extent here because of the dark water that absorbs sunlight more quickly, and there is no current flow to move it. The City of Madison closes beaches all the time during the summer because of it. In my research of the problem, I don't think it's going away anytime soon.

I am aware that the algae has been on the lake for years, however not the blue green toxic algae in the amounts of the last two years. My family has been coming to castle rock for over 50 years. And never has in been as bad as the last two years. I have a place on Duck Creek now over 15 years. My brother in law has a home near the end of Duck Creek. This year the smell was so bad by his home that he got sick. It is absolutely disgusting and something has to be done

If BP and the Feds can remove millions of gallons of oil from the Gulf it would seem to me that if enough money is spent the Blue Green can go away. The simple green algae is harmless and something that is natural

I also have researched the problem and what I found is a lot of talk but no real action from our officials that are supposed to take care of the enviroment.

To say its not going away anytime soon is not the answer. The answer is we all must let our local, state and federal officials be aware that tourist revenues, property values and yes guide services will suffer

I believe the name of this particular board is Fishing Reports, not Water Complaints . . .I live in Tomah, same problem every year on Lake Tomah,
With this economy, if you think some one is going to fix it, you are on the wrong planet.
I would like to see some fishing reports please.
