Summer Bite is Good!

Oak Haven's summer guests are enjoying a variety of fish species.

Good numbers of Walleyes are being caught...with the evening bite seemingly the best. A few around 22-23 inches have been landed, but our big Walleye fishing seems to be best in May and June each year. (Reservations are being taken right now for May and June, 2011...9 of our 11 cabins are already booked for opening week) But we are anticipating some good fisherpersons here in the next few weeks and hope to see more big Walleyes in August or September.

Sunfish and Bluegills are now being landed at a good rate. Seems these fish outsmarted many of us this year....they have some new hiding spots! Just a few days ago, a 9 3/4 inch Bluegill was landed by 14 year old Chelsey of Indianola, Iowa.

Crappies continue to come in. Last week Tammy Moore of McHenry, Illinois landed a very nice 13 3/4 inch Crappie, our 2nd biggest of the season. See Crappie pictures in our Photo Gallery.

Our three biggest Perch of the season have been landed in the last 2 weeks. Bruce Moore of Creve Couer, Illinois, is our Giant Perch leader for 2010. He landed a 12 3/4 inch jumbo Perch on July 29th.

The Northern Pike bite, which started slow this year, has picked up recently. Ms. Jeri Walling of Omaha, Nebraska, landed our new Pike Leader a few days ago, a heavy 34 incher. She and her husband Charlie had quite a time getting this fish in their boat! Eight of our Top Ten Pike have been landed since July 19th.

We've had Muskies seen all spring and summer by our guests in Big Wolf Lake, Andrusia Lake and also in Cass Lake's Allen's Bay. Either following a lure or just cruising the surface, these fish seem to have no worries. Breaking surface and swimming within 20 feet of an anchored boat is not all that uncommon.

Oak Haven Resort is NOT your typical Minnesota Resort. We enforce these policies, to assure all our guests a "Quiet, peaceful, clean vacation." 1) We are a NO PETS Resort. 2) We are a NO PROFANITY Resort...a Great place for families with kids! 3) 9 PM to 9 AM is QUIET TIME. Rowdy and disrespectful late night behavior is not acceptable here. 4) NO LITTERING; this includes Cigarette Butts.
