Area Fishing Report 6/1/10
Hello Everyone, this is Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop right here in Tomahawk. This past weeks hot sticky weather has warmed up the water temperatures dramatically and sped up the bluegill spawn. We are still finding some gills in the shallows, but our best luck has been fishing the 5 to 6 foot weedlines. Slip bobbers, a small gold hook tipped with a beavertail is all you need to catch em!
Crappies are hanging around wood structure and the best time to get them is the late afternoon, Use Crappie Kings or small spinners and fish near the structure.
Perch are still up on the flats, use orange jigs with a brown and orange twister tail. This method has been producing nice Perch in the 10 to 12 inch size.
Early morning walleye anglers are finding nice walleye in the shallow weeds. Use a weedless jig tipped with a crawler or a leech. As the day wears on, move to deeper water and use a Lindy Spinner Crawler harness. As the evening approaches, return to the weed edges and use Salmo Hornets. These are small crankbaits that run about 4 feet below the surface and have a wide wobble that drive the walleyes crazy.
Local Bass anglers are having great success using Berkley Crazy Leg Chigger Craws, rig them up weedless and fish the bays that have lots of weeds and stumps.
If you want to try your luck at catching Pike, all you need are some weedless rubber frogs. A great new frog on the market this year is Ish's Phat Frog, they come in a variety of awesome colors and claim that phat frogs equal phat fish! Well, thats all for today.
