It's a Cool, Cool Summer
Many of us are still waiting for summer to arrive. Now we see August is nearly over. Days are getting shorter. Nights are getting cooler.
It's been a summer of cold fronts. Stable weather for a few days in a row usually allows fishermen to pick up on fishing patterns. This summer has been a cold summer, with unstable weather happening every few days. Before a cold front, fishing is good. But good fishing tapers off after the front. During most summers, when the weather stabilizes, winds from the south usually help the fishing. Anglers this summer have seen wind from the East and West, plus cold and rain every few days.
But through the rough weather came many successful anglers. Big Walleyes, Big Pike, Big Crappies, Big Largemouth Bass, etc. We now have more than five pages of fish photos on our website for 2009. Click on PHOTO GALLERY....click on 2009 WALL OF FAME....then click on the different page numbers shown at the bottom. The pictures are in date order.
Our top five Walleyes so far in 2009 are 28 1/8 inches (Owen Brummer), 28 inches (Eddie Houi), another 28 incher (John Black, Jr.), a 26 1/2 incher and a 25 1/2 incher. Our Pike leader remains Koby Lund with a 41 1/2 incher. Our Crappie leaders are Nathan Sager and David Bigham....tied at 14 1/8 inches.
Leading the Largemouth Bass category is Rodney Swartzentruber, who landed a big 19 7/8 incher. Next are Cody Lageson and Randall Wagler, tied at 19 inches. Our largest Rock Bass so far in 2009 was landed by Austin Becker, a nice 11 1/2 incher. Cameron Charity is our big Perch leader with a 12 1/2 incher.
Our only Musky landed this year was a 30 incher, photographed and released by Mr. Dean Lanners. (A couple of real big Musky got away. This area is known for huge 50+ inch Musky and we encourage real Musky Anglers to give us a try!) Leading the Bluegill/Sunfish/Pumpkinseed category is Sara Wyant. Sara landed a very nice 10 inch Bluegill. And finally, leading the Category for the beloved Bullhead....is Mr. Mike Hoffman....a monster 16 inch Bullhead.
Congrats to all our Fishing Contest leaders...but these 2009 numbers aren't final yet. All eleven of our cabins are booked September 12-19 and all eleven are booked for Sept. 19-26. So those and other guests still have a chance to win any of our Fishing Contest categories this fall.
Debbie and I are enjoying a record breaking year here at Oak Haven Resort in 2009 and want to thank all our guests, especially those who return each year. In 2009 we enjoyed five consecutive summer weeks (mostly in July) where all eleven cabins were booked. Right now we have 47 cabins booked for a full week in 2010...so you should make your 2010 reservation "Real Soon!".
In 2010....from June 5 to August 14...for those ten weeks....we will only accept weekly Saturday (4PM) to Saturday (9AM) reservations.
Oak Haven Resort rests in a scenic, secluded area. At Oak Haven...9 PM to 9AM is "Quiet Time"....so if you've had a bad experience elsewhere that was caused by disruptive guests or pets...try us. We think you'll like it here. We're a little bit different, and we like it that way.
Call now. Join the fun at Oak Haven Resort.
