Tooth tamer rods?
Back in May when i was at the muskie expo in warren they had tooth tamer rods on show. Does the outdoor shop there now carry them? I live an hour west of there, so asking is better than driving. Also if anyone has one, or held one what does everyone think? I did not have the cash to get one then but i now may consider one. I have looked to find info online but came up with not to much other than fig rig tooth tamers but these are different. thanks

I am a St. Croix junkie and have not used them at all. I have heard mixed reports about them but then again, you could say that about every rod out there.
As for the Warren tackle shop carrying them, I do not know but I doubt it. I hear the rod and tackle inventory has not changed since the expo but that is just hearsay.....maybe call them up and ask them. I think their number is on my "Preparations" page.

I had a chance to use the rods a little a couple months ago. I liked the 8' 6" H, it was a nice rod. The synthetic cork is also a neat feature. At the time, I was looking for a big rubber rod and thought the XXXH was the rod to get, but thought it may have been too bulky. Due to some of fig rigs issues in the past, I decided to stay away from the tooth tamers and get the 9'3"XH Okuma. This rod is a lot more bulky than the tooth tamer 8'XXXH. I don't think you would be disappointed in the rods.

Tooth Tamer Rods
I purchased a Fig Rig Tooth Tamer rod at Gander Mountain in June 08. I have been very pleased with it for over a year now. What problems should I expect?
-
Fig rig tooth tamers are not the same as these ones. Fig rig went under last year and a new guy bought the rights to the tooth tamer name and now making these rods.
From what i have read, if you have not had a problem with your rod yet, you should be in the clear. My understanding is that the fig rig rods had a bad batch of blanks and they broke easly. That gave them a bad name... But if you have your this long, i bet you got a good one.

Hey Bob (Allegheny Field and Stream)..........What are the rules for the "I COTA fish" contest regarding weigh-ins being held at your store?? Is it safe to assume the largest fish will be killed in order to qualify for the prize or is there a catch and release division??
-
I found the rules this morning on the warrenadventures.com website.......question answered.

It was nice to read in the paper this morning that the musky division for "I COTA Fish" will be a catch, photo and release format with a signed witness.
