Opening day tomorrow! Delavan Lake or lake Geneva?
Opening day is this coming Saturday, May 5. It should be an exciting first few weeks! The pan fish have been the most active biting on both lakes as those are all we have to target the past few months. I have been noticing many game fish moving about the same shallow water area in the clean water conditions as of late while in pursuant of these pan fish. While out last week bluegills, Perch, and crappies have been quite active. We have been fishing them in 3-8 feet of water floating wax worms, small red worm, or small crappie minnow below small bobbers, or casting small jig/plastic combos slowly below float for the crappie.
Northern pike will be in 6-7 feet of water in the weed flats. The best approach will be anchored fishing bobbers with shiners or small sucker. The Walleye will be relating to weed and rock areas in the 6-8-foot depth range. The best presentation will be jigging, slip floats/shiner minnow, casting cracks, slow trolling bottom bounce/spinners, and most live bait rig combo.. The best time to fish them is low light conditions. The water is still pretty cool 50's so bass are still in pre spawn mode been seeing both of them in the same shallow water depths as our pan fish. I will start casting slow sinking/suspending presentation like slick stix/senko type plastics, crank baits it is supposed to be warming up a bit this week, so that will help making them even more active...One of last years opening week client's stated that they had been out fishing many lakes in Florida in the past and have never caught so many or so big of Bass! Hope to see you on the water!
