Boreal Bay - Fishing Report - May 31st

I'm hearing they actually have seen warm weather about 300 miles south of us and not much rain there either. We have been staying on the cool and wet side. Kakagi (Crow) Lake is within a few inches of the high water marking on the rocks and water temps in the mid 40's. Lake of the Woods - Stevens Bay area is low to mid 50's and the lake levels are also high on LOTW.

Lake Trout are still shallow - best bites this week have been in the 25' depths trolling baits 5-10 feet down. No big Lake Trout this week, because almost, doesn't count!

Walleye have been ok - seems like every other day is good. 28" was best this week.

Crappie are almost done spawning in Stevens Bay and not expecting many more Crappie hunters until fall. The 12-14 inch Crappie have been very plentiful this season and great fun for many of the guests.

Northern Pike were the main attraction this past week - a few 35 - 38 inch and bunches of them just below the slot limit in size.

A few more Jumbo Perch caught this past week and expect we will have more groups trying for them in the coming week.

The Bass bite seems to be improving, but not near the peak of the season yet. The smaller lakes and LOTW have the bass getting ready to come in for spawning. Kakagi doesn't have the bass in shallow yet, a few comng from 15' waters today.

Bass groups coming in the next few weeks are hoping for warm weather and Muskie Opener Muskie hunters are hoping the warm weather is delayed. A cold Muskie Opener on Kakagi can be an awful lot of fun - we have one cabin available for a week on Muskie opener and another cabin available for Sat-Tues.

We have enjoyed a great fishing start to our season and should be posting more May pictures later this week.
