Weekly Report: June 13-20, 2009

The weather was stable all week long with warming temps and little wind. Fishing was quite good all the way around. The lake level actually dropped an inch or so and may do the same this week, especially with the sunshine helping out with evaportation.

Northerns were caught in the shallows, bass were on boulder shorelines, walleyes were all over the place and muskies made appearances on various structures as well.

Walleyes reports started to show some fish move into more shallow structure, including some rock reefs. They were also caught in the weeds and along shorelines and points so there were a lot of places that were fishable. Minnows and leeches were the ticket again this week. Jigs were more common that spinners from the reports we are getting. Also, more than one group of anglers noted that walleyes were nailing shad raps while casting shallow for bass. Keep that in mind if you are out there and run out of things to try.

Multiple large walleyes were caught and released this week. Two of them were 29 inches and better. A 39" northern was also caught and released off the dock one evening.

As we look forward to muskie opener, we'll have a few groups throwing for the big girls and expect them to be in the weeds and weed/rock combinations to start. Some of the anglers fishing northerns noticed that a SLOW retrieve brought more fish to the boat last week. Weed growth is good in some places, but still a little behind schedule. Another week or so of sunshine and stable water levels should get them closer to topping out.

The water temps in the areas around Morson are pretty much in the 70 degree range and a bit higher in places. The forecast is calling for a little storm activity overnight Sunday into Monday and then a few more warm and dry days.
