I had some awesome musky action pre fishing and guiding the week before the WMT Three Lakes chain tournament. We boated many legal size muskies with the biggest caught by Jim, his first musky measuring 42 inches! Nice job Jim! Almost all of the fish we caught were relating to shallow weedy cover with some deep water near by, the traditional musky hangout. We had lots of follows from BIG fish off humps in 15-25 feet of water but these fish seemed very inactive and would not respond to any type of toss-back techniques. Winds were out of the SW and NW, water surface temps ranged from 62 to 64 degrees and conditions were fairly sunny.

Sat. and Sun. of the WMT Three Lakes chain tournament brought some tough fishing conditions. Winds switched to the NE-E and water surface temps dropped all the way to 58-60 by Sunday. Air temps were 50 degrees and under with cold winds up to 20 mph. Light rain was icing on the cake. We lost two muskies but caught just about everything else - walleye, smallies and northerns. We did not check the tournament results on Sunday so I will post them when they are up. Congratulations to all the winners and nice meeting everyone!

Look for conditions to improve as we head into this weekend. Out this morning on a local lake scouting and saw some big fish following on cranks but all saw the boat and just bolted. Surface temps have dropped even further holding solid at 58-59 degrees due to these cold nights with temps in the mid 40’s. It should warm up tomorrow and fishing should pick up.

Good luck,

Chas Martin
