This looks as though it is going to be a good opener for those that know the habits of walleyes and at what temperatures they do what they do. I remember many openers guiding customers, that were less than comfortable. Snow, cold rain, wind,,,, it was more like late fall fishing than early spring. The weather man says we won't have to deal with that this year. Sunny and temps in the 50's are in the forecast.

However the walleyes live in a different world. On most the lakes the water temperatures are in the low to mid forties. A smart bet would put a knowledgeable fisherman on the gravel shorelines. Rock, wood, gravel. This is key at these temperatures. If there is a deeper water nearby, so much the better. Larger walleyes are more likely to be present, because of their strong self preservation instincts.

I'll be out there guiding a bit this week and maybe I'll see some of you on the water. Remeber, rock, gravel, wood, and move the jig and fathead slow.

Good luck,
