I know this question was probably asked before, but I was wondering if there is any cell phone provider that allows you to get reception on the Chip. I know the one I have doesn't, but I seem to recall Ty saying he could.

Thanks for the info.

I have Cingular/AT@T. I have a great signal on a large majority of the lake.

Verizon doesn't work for me. I think Alltell (sp?) works.

Verizon and Alltel are now the same company. Alltel never worked for me up there, but not sure now with the Verizon merger. I hope it will.

It has alot to do with type (software base) of phone you have than it does with your provider. I have two different phones with alltel, one works, one doesn't. Someone explained the difference in phone software to me once but I didn't understand a word... other than one kind will work in that type of environment and one kind won't.

That should be "clear as mud"

My Verizon doesn't work too well except near Hayward. Suprisingly, one of those Trac Fones from Wal Mart seemed to work really well.

However, when I'm up there on the lake, I sorta' want to get away from my phone. I know that won't work for everybody.

I have a decent signal with AT&T/Cingular. The old Nokia phones work the best for me.

I'll never give up my old ghetto $10 nokia phone. I always seem to have full bars while fishing.

I've got t-mobile

Anybody know if this has changed at all? I was up last September and I know Verizon wasn't working anywhere past the casino and it appears their coverage map still doesn't include the flowage. Therefore I bought one of those prepaid AT&T phones hoping that would allow for at least some sort of reception while on the water when I come up in a few weeks. Just wondering if the AT&T service is still good enough to make or receive calls while on the flowage. Thanks in advance!

I use ATT and it works pretty good throughout WHILE ON THE WATER or near it, once on the roads and surrounded by trees, not so much. I have some slider phone, and a buddy has a crack-berry that works well enough up there as well.

The reason pre-paid phones work pretty much anywhere is because they pick up signals from any providers tower.Whereas verizon etc.. only picks up signals from their specific tower.I use a Trac phone when up nort and always get a signal.Hope this helps.Good fishin to all!

Trav, I would appreciate it if you did not advertise this information. I know the chance of one of our wives checking this forum is about the same as you actually putting a musky in the boat this year, but I'd still rather not take the chance. Thank you for your understanding and future discretion.

Nick L...I completly agree. The cell phone excuse is a great way yo not have to deal with calling the wife.

Nick, what you use it for is up to you. Myself, I like to know if the Twins won once in awhile when up there for a week. Turn it off in the mean time and use the "battery died and no charger" excuse.

Coldfront is pretty close here... it actually depends on the hardware on your phone. Some old Alltell/Verizon phones will work on the flowage if they have analog & digital radio chips in them. Analog equipment is legacy and is being replaced by digital by all providers so unless you have had a plan with Verizon/Alltel from a long time ago and are still using the same phone you will not get service out on the water. In fact, most cell towers in the northwoods have had their analog equipment replaced with digital.

I have both at&t and Verizon and I dont even bring my Verizon phone out fishing with me.

I get zero reception with Sprint. Ironically, I get great reception in the middle of Lake of the Woods, but absolutely nothing between Hayward and Park Falls.
