I am curious to see if you guys have any advice for effective ways to explore/fish new streams and/or rivers without being able to float them. The issue I have run into is being able to comfortably carry the needed gear, but still be able to make my way decent distances on foot. As of now, I carry my tackle bag that has my few lures and release tools. This thing tends to become a bit of a pain once you get a mile or so from your vehicle.

I have been thinking of just grabbing a bucktail and one other bait and finding an easier container to carry this stuff while I search for likely spots. Problem is that I want to be sure to have ALL of the release tools too. Has anyone come up with a trimmed down way to accomplish this??

I mostly wade when I go fishing and I use a sachel that I got at the army navy store for about $20 or so. It holds all of my release tools, water, lures, and anything else I need and it is comfortable. I make and sell a lure wallet that I can fit 12 or more full size musky lures in and it then fits in the sachel (actually I put 2 in there). I will try to post some pics on here of my set up. PM me if you have any interest in the wallets.

Red, is there a better way to do this on here? I am sure that I am screwing it up.

Jacob,

The photos look fine to me but.................

To get photos on this format, you must re-size them to about 640x240. My Kodak pictures are taken in high resolution and are 2150x1650, which is way too big for this site.

Many guys use photobucket but I just email them to myself through the Kodak software and I am given the option to "make my pictures smaller" when including them in the body of the email. After I receive them, I save them to "My Pictures" and then place them on the site.

jacob,

thanks for the advice/pics!! I really like that lure wallet, not only for the lures, but I think it would be perfect for my Musky flies as well.

Cabela's used to make a wallet with plastic pages in which you could place leaders/flies/etc into............all you did was fold it and fasten the velcro. I used to put fluoro leaders in it and it worked great.

I am not sure if they still carry it or not but I bet they do.

I have seen a few of those types of wallets in the past. I like the looks of this one since it looks like there is some type of material (wool??) where the lures sit. That would be great for helping dry out my flies after use
