Weather improved and we stayed dry all week. With the stable weather patterns of light winds and warming temps, the walleye turned ON! Some of the best fishing many long time groups have ever had, with 20" and larger walleyes being too numerous to count.

Speaking to one group this morning, they reported at least 12 fish 25"-27" from Monday through Friday, with a 29" being their biggest last weekend. Fishing for 6 hours on Tuesday, they counted 17 walleyes over 20".

Their success has been sand, gravel, rocks...closer to points and sand with gravel. Wind swept areas have been better. Fish have been hitting best in 10-15 feet, but they have moved to a secondary break if the action slowed up at any point. This group has been bottom bounces with spinners and live bait...Bring their presentation down the breakline..starting in 6 feet and working downwards. The big fish appear to be in serious feeding mode and have been gobbling up the bait as on the way down the slope.

Northerns were hotter and hot in Obabikon. 3-6 feet of water. One boat landed 98 fish in their one day of casting. Nothing big, as is often the case..with 27" being the largest, but the action was non-stop!

Smallies have been hitting as well. Good average sizes to this little footballs...many in the 18" range. No true giants yet, but they have been on rubble and shallow points, along with walleyes at times for those of you that enjoy crank baiting.

The action can't stay this hot forever so get in on it while you can. AS long as the weather is stable, we will expect it to continue.

Good luck on the water this week.

My wife and I were able to fish from the 6th to the 9th and fishing was nothing short of spectacular. We fished the afternoons with cranks on boulder shorelines in 1-8ft. MANY bass in the 14-18 inch range with the biggest being 18 1/4. Easy 30 fish days on bass, with every 5th fish being a quality eye or northern. These were 3-4 hour trips, so again I say spectacular. As much as I hate to say it, I lost my wives first muskie in the net (mid 40's). Walleye nets are not meant for the strength or size of a fish like that (at least that is what I tell my wife). I did crappie fish in the mornings with fair results. Most fish were in 5ft. or less, but I did get a few in 12-20ft. My biggest surprise was a 22 inch walleye in 2ft. of water crappie fishing, I thought I had the mythical 18 inch crappie for a minute. Anyway, going back in July for a 10 day sabbatical.
