Strong catches of Coho continue in the waters off Waukegan making the 2011 Coho Salmon Run one of the best in both numbers and longevity we have seen in years. It remains a spring-like atmosphere here and our setups reflect that for the most part. However we are catching more and more Coho on deeper setups than up top although we continue to catch them up on the surface as well.

Adding to the big hauls of Coho are usually at least several Kings as well as Lake Trout and Steelhead each time out as well. The Trout numbers will ebb and flow depending on the territory we fish and the baits we run. As we continue to move into the summer months, our catch rate of big Kings in the 12-20lb range should accelerate. We could continue to take big numbers of Coho along with the Kings as well as they don't seem to be in any hurry to leave the hordes of baitfish schools we have in the area.

The big Kings we have already caught this season - and these numbers have been quite positive - look very healthy as well so the Kings are eating well and that potentially means some really big fish for the King run.

Thanks for reading!
