I received a little early intel on the lake water temp so I thought I would get the thread kicked off nice and early this year.

Talked to a couple of guys who went out on the lake with a load of gear and tried a little crappie fishing yesterday (May 7) and they reported seeing water temps of 46 degrees.

They found 1 crappie and a few perch.

Thanks for that update. Will be interesting to see how that progresses in the next couple weeks. 46 seems pretty warm for having ice out just about a week ago.

Had a report of 48 degrees out in Sabaskong today. A few diehards out looking for crappies, smallies, northerns but wasn't much going on according to a couple of the boats that reported in.

Got invited to some friends' cabin tonight for dinner and they said they saw temps ranging from 48-52 degrees today and found some crappies in Miles Bay around 25 feet of water.

Couple of boats out looking for crappies/northern spotted water at 60 degrees. It was 64 at the dock on a lowrance x-96 transducer in the evening.

What will this mean for walleyes this weekend? Stay tuned!!

Hi Justin
I've never been to your place but I like what you do with the water temps throughout the years. My group goes to Smith Camps up on North end of LOTW. I've been compiling the information you've shared since 09. I thought it would be interesting to see a comparitive graph. Thanks for the info. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp539%3B6%3Enu%3D3349%3E%3B45%3E479%3E WSNRCG%3D366%3A6%3A6958336nu0mrj

Moose: Thanks for following the info on the forum here. That graph is pretty darn cool! I would never have guessed that the water temp threads would be far and away the most viewed in the first couple of years doing the forum.

I'll continue to post when I can get info.

Wish you the best of luck on the north end of LOTW during your stays up there.

Had a group head out towards the Litte Traverse and they report 60-61 degrees on May 25.

It was 63 at the dock here in the bay last evening (May 26.)

Not much warmth in the forecast. I dont expect water temps to come up much this week.

After a sunny day, water was 66-67 around 8pm out to the west towards Dawson Island.

I noticed this while I was out WALLEYE fishing with a couple of guests that had room in their boat. Yup, I went WALLEYE fishing. Well, got my one trip out of the way for 2011. Bring on the muskies.

P.S. I caught 3! Must have been the Northland Fireball Jig Eric gave me to use. HAHA.

Reported at 63-64 in the open water during some morning fishing and then 67.5 at the dock later in the afternoon.

More sunshine in the forecast should help it build some traction for the weekend.

Let the madnesss begin...muskie opens at midnight!!

Saw 60-63 in different places on Sunday, Sept 18. Have had two days of high winds from east and now north...temps were in the high 50s in the shallow bays of OB Lake early in the week.

Overnight lows in the high 30s forecasted will get things dropping again. Looks like nice daytime weather for the weekend so they should hold steady during the days.

Things appear right on schedule.

61-63 degrees in the evening after several days of sunshine.

Cooler overnight temps coming over the weekend.

Back to normal forecasted temps next week.

Looks like things are right on schedule for a second week of October start to the fall trolling season!

Hi Justin. I see you've had another hot week on the south end of LOTW. Have you started trolling yet or are you still casting? Any idea when the trolling bite may start?

Thanks

Rick

Hey Rick,

Planning to give trolling a shot this weekend, but have advised a couple of our groups to have the casting gear ready. They will likely cast during the afternoon when temps are at the warmest of the day and trolling morning and evening. Water temps still 60 and above...trolling bite may be a bit behind schedule at this rate, but I will see what's going on out there I hope.

Weather for Saturday looks WINDY so may not get out much or far Saturday...will hit it harder Sunday/Monday if that is the case.

Thanks Justin. Just checking the weather and it looks like the south end of the lake is getting thunderstorms today, with very high winds west of you. I'm heading to the Angle next weekend for a week, so I hope the weather settles down some. I bought a couple of Boobie Traps like the one you were using in the summer, so I'll make sure to throw in some casting equipment if it stays warm.

Good luck this weekend.

Rick

Sounds like the weather will be going back down to normal temps this week and that should help get the trolling bite going. Had 3 boats casting yesterday and they only caught one fish.

I didnt make it out with the wind, but will be out some today and tomorrow.

Good luck with your trip, Rick. It's great that you can fish with the master a little before he hangs up his guide hat. Tell Doug I said hello from Sabaskong and not to put too many 50s in the boat before I even get a chance to start fishing over here. HAHA
