Muskie action has remained excellent over the last week as we have moved into the summer peak period of ecosystem development. Water surface temperatures are ranging between 70-75 degrees and the weather conditions have made for good fishing with scattered rain and lightening storms bringing some much needed water to the area. Winds today were out of the W-SW and have been predicted to stay that way for at least a few days.

The shallow water weed bite is still going strong but as of lately my clients and I have been catching a lot of muskies suspended in relation to structure and also a few fish that have suspended in the main lake basin. These fish have been easy to target by following baitfish movements. Pay special attention to your electronics to locate schools of perch, panfish and various minnows. The muskies are usually not far away from their prey so even if you don’t catch a fish on your first few passes through an area be sure to revisit and give it another try. For suspended muskies there are no limitations on the type of lures you can throw and be successful. Bucktails, crankbaits, spinners, gliders and even topwaters all produce but like any style of fishing you should try to pick the right lure that you feel compliments the muskies behavior.

The northern pike action has been fast and furious. These fish have been hitting almost anything thrown in front of them and they keep your senses sharp while hunting muskies. We have been taking a few bigger ones along with the usual size ones which has been great for the kids!

Good luck and fish hard!
