Opening weekend went well for several of our pro-staff guides here at the shop. Chas Martin caught several nice fish, as well as a good selection of different species very shallow in the weeds on the Three Lakes and Eagle River Chain of Lakes.

Mark Rottier also had an excellent opener, catching over 30 walleyes on opening day up to 23.5 inches. A very impressive day considering the wind was gusting to 40 mph, and sustaining at 25 mph. However on Sunday the winds dropped and Mark's boat landed over 80 walleyes that day. He fished shallow in the morning and during the day, Mark went to deep water to up the action.

Both Mark and Chas were using fathead and redtail chubs on a jig or straight away to catch the fish.Straight away is a sinker, with a hook or floating jig.

The good new is this bite is going to get nothing but better in the coming weeks. The bad news is the tougher summer bite is going to get here earlier due to the early ice out.

I start guiding next weekend, so stay tuned to what happens in "Ranger" Rick's Boat!

See you all up north.
