Fishing remains outstanding aboard the Independence with limits of 20-30 Coho Salmon filling the cooler only a short distance from the port.

A calm lake and comfortable temperatures greeted us on the morning of May 1 and before we had all of 12 lines set, we began catching fish. As if the solid action on the rods and the beautiful morning were not enough, Captain Rick was further gratified that about 3/4 of the 20 fish-limit on Saturday morning were caught on flies that he tied himself. Some of these flies were tied just the day before and featured some experimental patterns as well. It's especially satisfying to see lures that were created nearly from scratch - a hook, some thread, and mylar tinsel - work so well!

The 2010 Coho Salmon run begun early and the fish are larger than average for this early in May which is an indication that they are eating very well. Putting on a pound or more a week, we could be catching 7-10lb 'tackle-buster' Coho in two weeks. Most customers profess that the Coho Salmon we are catching right now are the best table-fare as well.

We have a pretty busy week on the water coming up but there is some weekday and weekend availability. We are never certain as to how long the huge schools of Coho will remain in the area so don't put your trip off too long.
