We were out Sunday morning, down by Castle Rock dam, with a few poles in the water. It was about 9 AM. We didn't get any bites (we were using worms and twisters) but we got quite a show of jumping carp.

We saw over a dozen different leaps, surfaces and peeks (ie - the carp literally came to the side of the boat, lifted it's head and looked directly at us).

These were not "jumping asian carp" but they were at least 18-24 inches long.

Anyone else seen this behavior lately?

Thanks,
Paul

Nope, I haven't seen them jumping like that, however, during spawning they can get over active.

I was up to the lake this weekend for the first time this year, no fishing however. Passing by the lake at the southwest corner, which I call Well's Bay because Well's Cottages are right there, I saw a lot of carp spawning already. Real early in my opinion. I only hope the high water pulls back before the eggs can hatch and strand those eggs above the water line.

Hooray for the carp bowfishermen, who were out already.
